A three-week Oral Bible Translation Training that began on 22nd January and concluded on 9th February 2024 for the Kunda-speaking people ended with a graduation ceremony at Msimbiti Lodge in Mambwe District of the Eastern Province, in the Mfuwe area.
The graduation ceremony was graced by Hon. Peter Saimon Phiri, Malambo Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) and Eastern Province Minister.
The event attracted attendees from various backgrounds, including the BiLTA Executive Vice Chairperson, Rev. Ezekiel Ngulube, and the Executive Treasurer, Mr. Mtumbi Goma. Also present were the Chairperson for Kunda Bible Translation and Literacy (KBTL), Dr. Geoffrey Tambukukani, His Royal Highness Chief Munkhanya, Rev. Godfrey Muchinshi of the Pentecostal Assemblies of God, and George Banda, Kakumbi Ward Councilor in Malambo Constituency.
In his address on behalf of the Kunda-speaking people and the government, the guest of honor expressed joy at witnessing the translation of the Old Testament into the Kunda language. He also noted that the employment of nine people aligns with the government’s policy to reduce unemployment.
The guest of honor extended gratitude to the team of trainers for their work. The workshop trained nine translators and two security officers. The trainers included Joseph Wambula from Tanzania (under Faith Comes By Hearing), along with Bertha Chilembo Shawa and Clement Kaonga, both from BiLTA.
